restorative and diverse approaches to learning centering around student and community needs.
With a creative, collaborative, and responsive foundation, we can empower and inspire young people,
educators, and intergenerational learners to believe in the power of their mighty and creative voice!
Our entire team believes in the power of non-linear and collective growth and together we focus on
nurturing inclusive spaces that invite you to be your most courageous, creative, and authentic self.
Creative Root Arts Ed Facilitators
Our kind and creative educators are committed to lifelong learning and are encouraged to embody the holistic
theater education philosophy that we follow at Creative Root. Each educator aims to cultivate positive
relationships with themselves and their students to optimize each student’s learning potential and wellbeing.
Training & Mentorship
DePaul students have the opportunity to take classes in teaching artistry at The Theatre School that are driven by
our mission and philosophy. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of lesson planning, facilitating, and
evaluating theater programs for young people all while investigating different education strategies and best practices
for the classroom. Mentorship, classroom observation, and facilitation will coincide with programs offered by Creative
Root. Let your imagination thrive with hands-on experiences and programs accompanied by mentorship from professional
art educators actively working in the field.
THE THEATRE SCHOOL AT DEPAUL
The Theatre School trains students to the highest level of professional skill and artistry in an
inclusive and diverse conservatory setting. We have a nine-decade tradition of educating, training,
and inspiring those who will shape the future of American theatre.
The school seeks to inspire respect for self, for others, for the profession, and for humanity,
embracing the Vincentian model of service. We celebrate the primacy of the imagination in our work.
And we do it all in a state-of-the-art facility in our artistic home in Lincoln Park.
WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU AT THE THEATRE!
Designed by the internationally renowned architect César Pelli, and his firm Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects,
DePaul University's Theatre School (opened September 2013) is located at the corner of Fullerton and Racine
on the Lincoln Park Campus. The design process was informed by its dual function: to be a performance and
public space, as well as a private conservatory of all theatrical disciplines.
The school houses two theatre spaces: a 250-seat theatre and a 100-seat flexible theatre. The building also
includes our costume, makeup, prop and scene shops, rehearsal studios, lighting laboratories, movement
studios, and much more.
This is our artistic home. Here we rehearse, collaborate, and learn in a facility designed and developed
specifically to meet the creative needs of theatre artists and experts.
